HDMI: Get More from Your Games Console - Technology - Electronics

HDMI: Get More from Your Games Console - back to pressroom

Games consoles today can be easily played in high definition with the array of HDMI cables available. The three main consoles on the market at the moment are of course the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 and of course the Xbox 360. All of these consoles have the ability to have game play enhanced with the two latter consoles being able to be connected via a high definition multimedia interface giving the user a clearer more intense gaming experience.

Any gamer wants to get the best all round entertainment from their console with many, taking a lot of time and energy not to mention research in order to decide which console is best and what components should be used with it. Many will even opt for a LCD or plasma HDMI TV to hook the console up to in pursuit of amazing audio and video.

Of course, any gamer worth their salt will know that it is not just about the games console and the HDMI TV. The HDMI cables used to connect these electrical items are a hugely important but sometimes overlooked item. We must remember that it is these cables that transit the audio/visual data from console to TV therefore poor quality cables may result in poor quality data transfer and ultimately game play will be impeded.

However, this does not mean that hundreds of pounds need to be spent on HDMI cables, as some people would have you believe. It is all too easy to get carried away buying the most expensive monster HDMI cables on the market when great quality HDMI cables can be purchased at a fraction of the price.

It is possible to get good quality audio/video from HDMI, component, and SCART cables providing they have been manufactured by a company that has serious expertise in producing cabling solutions at reasonable prices. After all, why pay big money when you can find cables able to get the job done in the sub 20.00 price bracket.

For instance, although we know that the Nintendo Wii does not support HDMI (this question seems to be asked a lot) it is possible to improve sound and video by upgrading to a Wii to RGB component cable. By doing this the picture will be much sharper and game play enhanced.

The Xbox 360 on the other hand can have game quality enhanced with the aid of an Xbox 360 to component HD cable. This cable offers the ability to have high definition gaming output of either 730p or 1080i for the best possible game sound and imagery. Unlike the Nintendo, Xbox 360's do support high definition so can take advantage of this medium.

The demand for the best possible gaming experience is only going to increase. As more and more homes switch to LCD or plasma HDMI TV's then the need to use HDMI cables to hook up these screens to our consoles will increase too. Shop around and seek out a retailer that can offer the best of both worlds, i.e. quality but at a great price. Take a look at for more information.
